DESIGN CHALLENGES
Every week on Instagram, #renderweekly and #weeklydesignchallenge has different design briefs for fellow designers to take on. Here are some Keyshot renderings and sketches that I’ve submitted.
01. 31. 22
This week’s brief was intersecting two primitives to create a product. I’ve always been fascinated with time pieces, so this was a good opportunity. Time pieces are one of those products that are so pure in form and function that every small detail matter and they help to differentiate. The twist that I added was the halo gradient on the face and only in that area that you would see the minute hand.
12. 24. 21
The brief was to create a loft using two different profile sketches. The lamp was created using a circle and triangle. I’ve always been attracted to lighting design and this was a fun exercise where I played with the CMF and setting up modern interior scene.
12. 05 .21
The challenge was to design a bookshelf. My version is portable with a detachable handle where the user can take it anywhere around the house. The design is flexible in that you don’t have to use it for books, it can be used to organize everyday items.
9. 12. 20
The challenge was to design something using recycled plastics and injection molding process.
My idea was to make a handle for carrying multiple bags or boxes. I thought it was fitting to create a product that was devoid of design and instead focus on the material and process.
08. 26. 20
Floor lamp design challenge for #renderweekly. I was interested in a light that does not illuminate directly, but casting a rim light. Also, wanted to further refine my lighting, material/texturing in Keyshot and modeling skills.
8. 18. 20
Portable hard drive concept #forDesignWorkout. I wanted to create a different look that recent hard drive designs have (e.g., 3D pattern on the surface of the case). I was attracted to the soft form with hard edges and tight radii. Together with the colors, it gave a “friendly technology” feel.
7. 24. 20
#fordesignworkout had a desk fan challenge. Inspiration for the design came from a flower with a long stem. Wanted something minimal and calm for the home. Also, this was a good excuse to try out Fusion 360 for modeling.
3. 20. 20
#weeklydesignchallenge had a brief for a paint gun design. Wanted to have a cleaner look and less like a power tool.
3. 18. 20
The brief was to design and render a thermometer. My submission was a no-contact digital thermometer so there’s less of a chance of contamination. I wanted to have a form that’s familiar to hold and gives a calm feeling. Often times, a lot of stress comes from the medical devices. Maybe having a friendlier design could help reduce that stress.
2. 26. 20
Glassware was that week’s brief. I decided to give the bottom of the glass an iconic shape. If one was to put cold drinks, the asterisk imprint could be left on the table.
2. 21. 20
#weekleydesignchallenge’s brief was to design a hoodie. I was going for a streetwear + technical feel with the design.
