NIKE VIEW (CASE STUDY)
NIKE VIEW is a concept for cycling glasses that let’s the rider change the lens color on the fly. Depending on the environment and weather, the correct lens color can help enhance contrast and reduce eye strain. The concept was supported by the research of Rice University, where they could change the glass color by applying or removing small voltages.
Challenge: Design a pair of glasses that could change into different lens colors, not just from clear to black.
Result: NIKE VIEW offers the ability to change lens colors in a compact form. The user does not need multiple pairs of glasses or lenses for different environment or weather conditions. This design would save cost and reduce waste.
The overall styling is less aggressive with cleaner lines. My intent was to have the glasses be used in various outdoor activities and not just for cycling. I still wanted it to look sleek, but without sacrificing protection for the wearer.
